Maui Luau

What’s your best recommendation for a luau.

Also what’s expectation on cost. I looked up one and for 4 people it would be like 1K … is that normal?

Maui is well-known for its traditional Hawaiian luaus, and there are several excellent options depending on the type of experience you want—whether beachfront, upscale, or more intimate. Luaus generally include a buffet dinner, drinks, and a cultural show with hula, fire dancing, and music. For a party of four, costs around $250 per adult is common, so $1,000 for four people is in line with standard pricing, especially if you include premium seating, drinks, or extras.

Some of the most highly recommended luaus on Maui are:

  • Old Lahaina Luau – located in Lahaina, often considered the most authentic and highly rated. It is beachfront, with a traditional Hawaiian feast and performances.
  • Feast at Lele – also in Lahaina, more upscale with table service rather than buffet, offering a multi-course Polynesian dinner and performances from different islands (Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, New Zealand).
  • Drums of the Pacific – located at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa in Ka’anapali, family-friendly with a mix of cultural performances and interactive elements.
  • Royal Lahaina Luau – another Ka’anapali option, slightly less expensive, still offers authentic Hawaiian entertainment.

Tips for attending a luau:

  • Book in advance, especially for popular luaus like Old Lahaina Luau, as they sell out quickly.
  • Arrive early to enjoy any pre-show activities or cultural demonstrations.
  • Check if drinks are included—some luaus charge extra for cocktails or mai tais.
  • Dress comfortably, but smart casual is typical; consider bringing a light jacket for the evening.
  • Seating choice can affect the experience—front-row seats are closer to the performance but may be pricier.

In summary, yes, $1,000 for four people is within the normal range for a quality luau experience in Maui. If you want the most authentic and memorable, Old Lahaina Luau is usually recommended. For a slightly more upscale or intimate option, Feast at Lele is excellent.
