Pacifica…what to do w teens
Hi. Potential family trip to visit folks in Alameda and Half Moon Bay and hopefully see a concert in San Fran. Suggested we stay Pacifica. Is there anything for two teens to do there? Is it practical/safe to be driving to and from San Fran for a concert? My preference was Miami for this concert. Thought safer/easier to stay close to venue/walkable.
Pacifica is a charming coastal town located just south of San Francisco. It’s well-known for its beaches, scenic coastal trails, and relaxed vibe. While it’s quieter than San Francisco, there are some activities that can appeal to teens, especially if they enjoy the outdoors.
- Beaches: Pacifica has several beaches like Linda Mar Beach (great for beginner surfing), Rockaway Beach, and Sharp Park Beach. Teens can enjoy beach walks, tidepool exploration, and even surfing lessons if interested.
- Hiking: There are scenic trails such as Mori Point and Sweeney Ridge, which offer ocean views, wildlife sightings, and easy to moderate hiking suitable for teens.
- Outdoor Adventures: Kite flying, beach volleyball, and casual biking along coastal roads are popular. Sharp Park also has a golf course and tennis courts.
- Nearby Attractions: From Pacifica, it’s a short drive to Half Moon Bay, which has more shopping, casual restaurants, and the Half Moon Bay Coastside Trail for biking or walking.
Regarding concerts in San Francisco:
- Driving from Pacifica to San Francisco is feasible, usually about 20–30 minutes without heavy traffic. However, during evening events, traffic can be heavy, and parking near concert venues may be limited and expensive.
- San Francisco has public transit options like BART, Muni buses, and rideshare services that can be more practical for reaching concert venues safely. Parking in the city and walking is often recommended over driving, especially at night.
- Staying closer to the venue in San Francisco would allow for walking, avoiding traffic, and generally being safer and more convenient, particularly if you plan to leave the concert late at night.
In summary, Pacifica is safe and scenic, and offers teens outdoor activities like beaches and hiking. However, for convenience and safety related to a San Francisco concert, staying closer to the venue would reduce stress and travel time, and make the evening more enjoyable for everyone.
