Nanjing Niu Shou Shan transport back to city at 5pm

We are planning to take taxi to Niu Shou Shan from Xinjiekou, Nanjing.

Plan to go weekday 2pm to Niushoushan as heard it has nice architecture.

Will it be difficult to catch a cab back at 5pm fr Niushoushan to Xinjiekou?

If cannot get cab, how to take public transport back?

Catching a taxi back from Niushou Shan to Xinjiekou around 5pm on a weekday in Nanjing should generally be manageable, but there are some factors to consider:

Niushou Shan is a popular tourist and religious site, so there may be a small queue of taxis near the entrance or parking area. Since 5pm is approaching evening rush hour, traffic towards the city center (Xinjiekou) might be heavier than earlier in the afternoon.

If you want to ensure a smooth return, it’s a good idea to plan alternatives:

  • Pre-booked taxi or ride-hailing: Use Didi Chuxing (China’s main ride-hailing app) to book a car in advance. This allows you to secure a vehicle at your preferred pickup time without waiting.
  • Hotel or local service assistance: Some nearby hotels or the Niushou Shan visitor center may assist in arranging a taxi or private car.

If you cannot get a taxi immediately, public transport is a reliable alternative:

  • Bus: There are several bus routes from Niushou Shan area back towards Xinjiekou. Bus lines such as 311, 324, or other local routes run frequently, but the walk from the main site to the bus stop may take 5–10 minutes.
  • Metro: The nearest metro station is Niushou Shan Station on Line 1 (or a short bus/taxi ride to a nearby metro station). From there, you can ride Line 1 directly to Xinjiekou, which is convenient and avoids traffic congestion.

Overall, if you are flexible, using Didi or public transport ensures you can return without much stress. During weekdays, taxis are usually available, but ride-hailing provides extra assurance during the late afternoon.
