Sitting in sun at a Rockies game?

We are visiting Denver to watch some baseball. We are going to a day game and sitting in section 128, row 13. If it’s a sunny day will be more than likely sitting in the direct sun? We’re pale Brits so will need to prepare. Thanks.

Good question. Yes — if you're sitting in Section 128, Row 13, for a day game at Coors Field, it's quite likely you'll be exposed to a good amount of direct sun. Here’s a breakdown of why, plus some tips on how to prepare.

Why you’ll probably be in the sun:

  • Coors Field is oriented so that the first-base side (including lower-numbered sections like 128) is one of the “sunny” sides during day games.
  • According to shade-seat guides, for infield (lower) sections on the first-base side, the front and middle rows get a lot of sun, especially early and mid-game.
  • RateYourSeats notes for similar sections that the very top rows (in other sections) may be shaded, but lower / mid rows generally are not.
  • Reddit discussion backs this up: fans say the “1st base line gets blasted by the sun” in day games.

Given all that, Row 13 in Section 128 is pretty likely to get strong sun — not the worst spot in the stadium, but definitely not one of the shady ones.

What you can do to prepare (especially as “pale Brits”):

  • Bring sunscreen (high SPF) — the altitude in Denver means stronger UV exposure, so it really matters.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat or cap and sunglasses to shield your face / eyes.
  • Consider light, breathable clothing (long sleeves or UV-protective gear) — helps protect your skin without making you too hot.
  • Bring a refillable water bottle (if allowed) so you can stay hydrated — being in the sun + at high elevation = dehydration risk.
  • Arrive early (when gates open) to get settled — maybe scout for slightly shadier spots nearby (if fans leave, you might be able to move, though that depends on stadium policy / your ticket).
  • If possible next time, pick seats on the third-base side or in higher rows — those areas tend to shade earlier / more.

Bottom line: Yes, you're very likely to bake a bit in those seats during a sunny day game — but with good sun protection (sunscreen, hat, water), you can still enjoy the game and make it work. Just be ready for strong sun and high-altitude intensity.
