A46 public airport bus questions

I'm landing at terminal 1 at around 2pm on a weekday. My hotel is in Shatin and there's a stop for the A46 airport bus out the front, so this seems the most convenient way from the airport to my hotel (I assume, please correct me if I'm wrong).

Whereabouts do I find this bus at the airport, how do I pay for it, and are different stops annouced or displayed along the way (will it be obvious when I'm at my hotel and need to disembark)? Any issues taking a suitcase each onboard (small or medium sized).

Thank you :)

The A46 Airport Bus is a convenient option for traveling from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to Shatin, especially if your hotel is near one of its stops. Here’s detailed guidance for your trip:

Location and Boarding

After arriving at Terminal 1 and collecting your luggage, follow the signs for the “Ground Transportation” or “Bus / Coach” area. The A46 Airport Bus stop is located on the ground transportation level outside Terminal 1, near the designated airport bus bays.

  • Look for the bus signs indicating “A46 – Shatin” or check the display boards for route information.
  • Buses generally operate frequently during the day, so you should be able to catch one without long waiting times, even on a weekday afternoon.

Payment

  • You can pay the fare directly to the bus driver in Hong Kong dollars, either with exact cash or with an Octopus Card (the contactless prepaid card widely used in Hong Kong).
  • The fare to Shatin is fixed and clearly displayed at the bus stop or on the bus itself.

Stops and Disembarking

  • The bus has multiple stops along the way. Each stop is usually announced in both Cantonese and English, and the name of the stop is displayed on electronic boards inside the bus.
  • It is advisable to check a map or have the hotel address handy to ensure you disembark at the correct stop.

Luggage

  • Passengers are allowed to bring small to medium-sized suitcases onboard. There is usually a luggage rack near the front or rear of the bus, or you can keep smaller bags by your seat.
  • If your luggage is large, consider arriving early to secure space, but typical personal luggage for travelers is easily accommodated.

Summary

The A46 Airport Bus is a practical and cost-effective choice for traveling to Shatin. It is easy to locate, accepts cash or Octopus Card, and clearly announces stops along the route. Just be sure to note your hotel’s nearest stop so you can disembark without confusion.
