Shower Facilities | Campgrounds

Hi,

we will be camping at Moraine campground

I am surprise that none of RMNP campgrounds have shower facilities?

Being a such a popular nps, why?

is there a reason.

where can i get a shower nearby?

Moraine Campground, like most campgrounds within Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), does not have shower facilities. This is common across the park because the focus is on preserving the natural environment and minimizing infrastructure impacts. Installing and maintaining showers in remote, high-altitude areas can be logistically challenging, costly, and can place a strain on water and sewage resources. RMNP prioritizes keeping the park as natural as possible, so amenities are limited to essentials such as toilets, potable water, and picnic areas.

Although it may seem surprising given the park’s popularity, the lack of showers is intentional to maintain the wilderness experience and reduce environmental impact. Campers are encouraged to practice minimal-impact camping and hygiene, such as using wet wipes or sponge baths, and to keep personal cleaning water to a minimum.

If you need a shower during your stay, there are several nearby options outside the park:

  • Estes Park Recreation Center: Offers public showers and is located in the town of Estes Park, just a short drive from Moraine Campground.
  • Local Lodges or Hotels: Many lodges, inns, and hotels in Estes Park offer day-use showers for a small fee. Examples include YMCA of the Rockies and certain resort hotels.
  • Campgrounds with Showers Nearby: Private campgrounds such as Estes Park Campground or nearby KOA sites often provide full shower facilities.

It’s a good idea to plan for shower access ahead of time, especially if you are camping for multiple days. Carrying biodegradable soap and small towels can help you stay refreshed while respecting the park’s natural resources.

Overall, while RMNP campgrounds focus on a rustic, back-to-nature experience, nearby towns like Estes Park provide convenient options for anyone needing a proper shower.
