Re: Payment ( Ref Hellow_Bamboo and other's post
Hi
We are carrying an e-Sim as well as our Indian no in roaming ( not costly here).Just want to clarify one thing-can we install the Chinese apps like Alipay or Baidoo after reaching there- these are not accessible from Play Store in India. ( unless we use a VPN). Thanks.
Yes, you can install Chinese apps like Alipay, Baidu Maps, and WeChat Pay after arriving in China. These apps are generally geo-restricted in India, so you won’t be able to download them from the Play Store or App Store in India without a VPN. Once you are in China with a local or roaming internet connection, you can download them directly.
Here are some important points to consider:
- Make sure your phone is compatible with local app stores or APK installation. For Android phones, you can download APK files from official or trusted sources once in China.
- For iPhones, you may need to temporarily switch your App Store region to China to download certain apps.
- Register your account with a Chinese phone number if required. Some apps may not fully function with foreign numbers, though you can often verify via your eSIM or local SIM.
Additional tips:
- Enable mobile data or Wi-Fi once you land in China. You don’t need a VPN for downloading apps while inside China.
- Have a backup plan if you want to use your foreign debit/credit card; linking a Chinese bank card or e-wallet is usually necessary for full functionality.
- Apps like Alipay or WeChat Pay require ID verification for certain features, so be prepared to provide a passport if needed.
In summary, carrying an eSIM or roaming number is fine, and installing Chinese apps after arrival is straightforward. Just ensure you follow the steps for registration and verification to access all features.
