Spending the day with friends near Davenport.
We're staying for the first time in Davenport. Besides my husband playing golf we haven't found much to do. We'd like to see someplace quaint - nice to walk around, eat or boutique shopping. Anywhere you can recommend? Winter Park? somewhere in Orlando? We're in our 70's so something easy. thanks!
Davenport is centrally located in Florida, which gives you easy access to a variety of charming towns and attractions perfect for a relaxing day trip. Since you’re looking for a quaint, walkable area with good dining and boutique shopping, there are several options worth considering within a reasonable drive.
Here are some recommended areas:
- Winter Park: About 45 minutes from Davenport, Winter Park is known for its picturesque streets, lakes, and historic architecture. You can stroll along Park Avenue, which is lined with boutique shops, art galleries, and cafes. The scenic boat tours along the Winter Park chain of lakes are gentle and offer a relaxing way to see the area.
- Mount Dora: Approximately 50 minutes from Davenport, Mount Dora offers a charming small-town feel with antique shops, art galleries, and quaint restaurants. It’s very walkable and known for its lakeside scenery.
- Celebration: Around 25–30 minutes away, Celebration is a planned community near Walt Disney World. It has lovely streets to walk, lakeside views, boutique shopping, and casual dining options. It’s easy to navigate and perfect for a relaxing stroll.
If you prefer staying closer to Orlando for more options:
- Lake Eola Park area (Downtown Orlando): Offers a nice walking path around the lake, swan boat rentals, casual dining, and a few shops. It’s a simple way to enjoy city scenery without too much hustle.
- Winter Park Farmers’ Market: If you’re visiting on a Saturday, the Winter Park Farmers’ Market is a lovely way to enjoy local crafts, fresh produce, and light snacks while exploring the area.
Overall, for a relaxed, easy day with good walking, dining, and shopping, Winter Park or Mount Dora would be my top recommendations. Celebration is another excellent choice if you want something very close and easy to navigate. All three areas are senior-friendly and have plenty of spots to rest along the way.
