I’ll be in AZ the end of March and looking for suggestions for a town or village that has a walkable downtown area. I would like to be in the vicinity of Sedona/Flagstaff. I’ll say within an hour of Flagstaff and not south of Sedona. Does such a town exist?
If you’re looking for a walkable downtown within the vicinity of Sedona and Flagstaff, there are a few towns that offer charm, shops, and restaurants within easy walking distance, though the options are somewhat limited due to the rural nature of northern Arizona.
Flagstaff itself has a surprisingly walkable downtown area. Historic Route 66 runs through it, and the area is filled with boutique shops, coffeehouses, breweries, and restaurants. The city is pedestrian-friendly, and you can explore much of downtown without needing a car.
Other nearby options include smaller towns or communities that have maintained walkable centers:
Most other towns between Sedona and Flagstaff are more spread out, and you’ll likely need a car to get around. Staying in Flagstaff or Williams would provide the best balance of walkability while being within an hour of Sedona’s red rock attractions.
In conclusion, for a true walkable downtown experience within an hour of Flagstaff and north of Sedona, Flagstaff and Williams are your best bets, with Sedona’s Uptown offering a more tourist-oriented walkable area.
