Epic pass - Friend Pass vs 4day pass

Need some advice from other EPIC pass holders with friend passes. My husband and I both have season Epic passes - which entitle us each to 10 Friend passes. WE are planning a trip to Breck and I'm debating use those friend passes for our 2 adult children to ski with us. We will be skiing most likely 4 days - weekdays.

1) with Friend passes - can we buy online in advance or only day of?

2) its says 50% off but having a hard time finding what the daily rate is that the 50% off is based on.

And so, while I would love to use those friend passes, wondering if buying an Epic 4 day pass is the better value?

any and all info on this topic is very appreciated.

When comparing the Epic Friend Pass versus purchasing a 4-day Epic pass for your adult children, there are several key points to consider, including how the Friend Pass works, pricing, and booking options.

Friend Pass Details: Each season Epic Pass holder receives 10 Friend Passes, which offer a discounted rate (typically 50% off the daily lift ticket price). Here’s what you need to know:

  • Booking: Friend Passes can usually be purchased online in advance through your Epic Pass account. This allows you to secure dates ahead of time, which is especially important during peak periods. Some resorts may allow same-day redemption, but availability may be limited.
  • Discount Rate: The 50% discount is based on the daily window rate for the specific resort. Epic posts the full daily window price online, so 50% of that is what your Friend Pass will cost. For example, if Breckenridge’s daily adult rate is $200, a Friend Pass would typically cost around $100.
  • Limitations: Friend Passes may have blackout dates, especially around holidays or peak periods. Always check for restrictions before planning.

Epic 4-Day Pass: Purchasing a dedicated 4-day Epic pass for your children can sometimes offer better flexibility and value, especially if you plan to ski multiple days in a row. Benefits include:

  • Unlimited skiing for 4 days without needing to redeem multiple Friend Passes.
  • No blackout dates.
  • Often cheaper per day if you are skiing multiple consecutive days, depending on the current daily window rates.

Recommendation: If your children will ski 4 consecutive weekdays, it’s worth calculating the total cost of 4 Friend Passes at 50% off daily rates versus a 4-day Epic pass. Friend Passes are great for single or sporadic days, but a 4-day Epic pass may be simpler and potentially more economical for multi-day trips.

In summary, Friend Passes can be purchased online in advance, the 50% off is based on the resort’s daily window rate, and for a 4-day ski trip, a 4-day Epic pass may provide better convenience and value. Always compare total costs and consider blackout dates when deciding.
