HHV Rainbow Tower Renovations ongoing or complete?

Hi,

I can't get a clear answer on if the Rainbow Tower renovations are completely done. I called and got two different answers. I can't tell if just one phase is done, or all of it is done. So...can anyone who is there now or recently there answer the question of is there any work still being done on the Rainbow Tower or is it completely renovated?

Also, I know a new building was approved for the HHV. When does that work start?

Mahalo!

Good question! Here’s what recent (and reliable) sources say about the status of the Rainbow Tower at Hilton Hawaiian Village, and the plans for a new tower.

Is the Rainbow Tower renovation complete?

  • The Hilton Hawaiian Village website now lists “newly renovated guest rooms” in the Rainbow Tower.
  • According to a recent press release, the renovation is indeed finished for a “first group” of rooms — they’re now rebranded as Rainbow Kai guestrooms, with ocean tones and local artistic touches.
  • A company news article confirms a major makeover: guest rooms, corridors, amenities all modernized, while preserving the iconic rainbow feel.
  • Industry sources back this up: in their “meetings & incentive” update, they state the Rainbow Tower’s renovation is complete, and the new rooms are available for booking.
  • That said, some Reddit users still report hearing renovation noise: > “There’s renovations on the rainbow tower which made it loud even from the beach.”

Bottom line on renovation: Yes — the Rainbow Tower’s renovation is largely complete, especially in terms of guest rooms and hallways. However, there may still be some residual work or finishing touches, which could explain why you got mixed answers when calling.

What about the new tower?

  • Hilton Hawaiian Village is planning a new 36-story tower (referred to as the “AMB Tower”) on the resort campus.
  • That expansion is still in the permitting and planning stage. Construction is expected to start around 2026 and could run through 2029.

My take: If you’re booking now or staying soon, you should be able to get a fully or mostly renovated room in the Rainbow Tower (especially if you specifically book the “Rainbow Kai” rooms). The major overhaul is done, but minor finishing isn’t impossible. As for the new tower — it’s not going up imminently, so you likely won’t be impacted by construction noise for now.
