- This temple is believed to have been built during the late Ayutthaya period. Originally named "Wat Bang Chak" because it was located at the mouth of the Bang Chak Canal, locals often called it "Wat Nok" because it was paired with "Wat Nai" (Inner Temples), namely Wat Paorohit, Wat Thong, and Wat Singh.
- During the reign of King Phutthaloetla Naphalai, Rama II of the Rattanakosin Era, Her Royal Highness Princess Praphaiwadi, the youngest daughter of King Rama I, renovated the entire temple. She found the original ubosot (ordination hall) too cramped and unsuitable for a magnificent ubosot (ordination hall). Therefore, she ordered its conversion to a viharn (wihan). She also built a new ubosot (ordination hall) and commissioned the construction of various permanent structures, including the principal Buddha image in the ubosot (ordination hall), the gallery (ordination hall), 80 stucco Buddha images, four chedis at the corners of the ubosot (ordination hall), monks' quarters, and a pavilion in front of the ubosot (ordination hall).
