Exploring the Royal Temple: Wat Suthat

Constructed in the first half of the 19th century, Wat Suthat stands as the most significant active temple in Bangkok. During my visit, a charitable event was taking place in the main Assembly Hall, adding an intriguing yet challenging aspect due to the throngs of people. The Sukhotai-style gilded Buddha, housed in the temple, dates back to the 14th century, while the elaborate wall paintings hail from the 19th century. Behind the Viharn lies the Ordination Hall, equally fascinating, featuring large statues from 1847 facing sculptures of about 80 disciples. The mural depictions of the Different Incarnations of Buddha rank among Thailand's finest. Although visitors are unable to access, one can also view the monks' living area. If there's one temple to visit outside the Royal Palace complex, Wat Suthat is the choice.
