Are you tired of crowded and overhyped tourist spots? Looking for a place where you can truly relax your mind and experience the pure beauty of the wilderness? Then you must not miss Hala Lake—known as the 'last tear of the Earth.'
Hala Lake is the second-largest lake in Qinghai and a hidden gem nestled deep within the Qilian Mountains. Here, there is no commercial hustle and bustle, only blue skies, white clouds, snow-capped mountains, pristine lakes, and herds of wild animals. Every view is a breathtaking scene that can heal all your fatigue.
Travel Tips:
- Best Time to Visit: June to September. During this period, the weather is most stable, the meadows around the lake are lush green, and flowers are in full bloom, making it the peak season for Hala Lake's beauty.
- Must-See Highlights:
- Sunset and Starry Sky: At dusk, the lake surface is painted in golden and orange hues—absolutely stunning! At night, with almost zero light pollution, the Milky Way is clearly visible, making it a paradise for photography enthusiasts.
- Wildlife: If you're lucky, you might spot Tibetan antelopes, wild donkeys, or even wolves roaming freely by the lake. Please maintain a safe distance while observing.
- Scenic Views: Drive around the lake to admire the snow-capped mountains reflected in the crystal-clear waters from different angles. Every snapshot is a masterpiece.
Transportation Guide:
Chartering a car is the best option, as the road conditions are challenging and require both a suitable vehicle and skilled driving.
- Route 1 (Standard Route): Depart from Delingha City, take the S2013 Tea-Delingha Expressway, switch to the S2103 Liugou Expressway, and then drive on gravel and dirt roads. The total distance is about 200 kilometers, taking 4-5 hours. This is the most developed route.
- Route 2 (Challenging Route): Depart from Dunhuang and cross Dangjin Mountain. This route offers more primitive scenery but has worse road conditions, with some sections requiring a 4WD vehicle.
- Vehicle Requirements: It is highly recommended to use a 4WD off-road vehicle and travel in a group. Ordinary sedans are not advised as they can easily get stuck in gravel or muddy sections.
Important Notes: Safety First!
1. Altitude Sickness Prevention: Hala Lake is at an altitude of about 4,077 meters. Take Rhodiola supplements a week before departure, avoid strenuous activities upon arrival, and bring oxygen bottles.
2. Adequate Supplies: There are almost no supply points along the way. Be sure to refuel and stock up on food and water in Delingha or Dunhuang before setting off.
3. Accommodation: There are simple nomadic tents by the lake, but conditions are basic. It is recommended to bring your own tent and sleeping bag for a true camping experience.
4. Communication Signal: Apart from some sections near Delingha, most areas around the lake have no mobile signal. It is best to carry a satellite phone or GPS device.
5. Environmental Protection: Please take all your trash with you and protect this pristine land. Leave no trace behind.
Set off and discover the true wilderness! Hala Lake is not an easy destination, but its beauty is worth every effort. Here, you will temporarily forget the worries of city life and be awed by the grandeur of nature.
