Just got back from Nanchang, here’s some harsh but honest truth! My bestie stayed up late to organize this pitfall-avoidance guide

Nanchang is really delicious! But there are also so many traps! Stayed up late to put together this real guide, hope your trip goes smoother than mine~

1️⃣ Accommodation Choices
Don’t just look at the price! Some hotels in the old city have photos that differ greatly from reality. It’s recommended to stay near Bayi Pavilion/Wanshougong Metro Station, convenient transportation, and you can stay comfortably for about 150 RMB per person. You can even order takeout at 2 a.m.
Recommended: Mercure Tengwang Pavilion Hotel (comes with a night tour ticket) or Hilton Hampton series (new facilities, good service).

2️⃣ Food Recommendations and Warnings
Must-try:
Mixed noodles + clay pot soup (3.5 RMB + 4 RMB): "Qin Pangzi" meatball soup shop on Dashiyuan Street, meat patties are fist-sized.
Sugar cake: "Xiao Luozi Soup Shop" on Jewelry Street, 1 RMB each, crispy outside and tender inside.
Boiled dishes: "Xiao Wu Boiled" youtiao soaked in soup is amazing, "Pangzi Boiled" spicy dough twists, chicken feet, and chicken paws are must-orders.
Avoid:
Long lines at popular stores! For the three classics and Dapinghuo, be sure to get a number in advance via their official WeChat account. Mild spicy here is like medium spicy elsewhere; if you can’t handle spice, order mini spicy.

3️⃣ Itinerary
Day 1: Shengjin Pagoda - Nanchang Art Academy - Jewelry Street - Bayi Uprising Memorial Hall - Tengwang Pavilion
For Tengwang Pavilion, buy the night combo ticket (80 RMB). Climb at 4 p.m. for the best lighting and stunning sunset views!
Day 2: Haihunhou Museum - Jiangxi Provincial Museum - Nanchang Star Ferris Wheel - Qiushui Square
Haihunhou Museum (60 RMB ticket) must-see: 378 gold pieces. Last bus back at 5:30 p.m., don’t miss it!
Day 3: Dashiyuan - Bayi Square - Jiangxi Art Museum - 699 Cultural and Creative Park

4️⃣ Transportation Tips
Avoid taxis unless necessary: Didi is cheaper than taxis. At night, if taking a motorcycle taxi, remember to bargain half the price.
Subway + shared e-bike is most convenient: 10-minute ride from Wanshougong to Tengwang Pavilion, riding along the river at night is super romantic.

5️⃣ Pitfall Avoidance
For mung bean cakes on Jewelry Street, look for "Chen Ji" brand; freshly baked ones taste ten times better than packaged!
Qiushui Square fountain starts at 7:30 p.m. every night; get front-row spots half an hour early or you’ll only see heads.
Reciting "Preface to Tengwang Pavilion" for free entry? Don’t try it! Now you have to join official events.

Final reminder: Nanchang is super hot in summer, bring a small fan and cooling patches; museums are lifesavers. Buying a 7-day 5-ride shared e-bike card is more cost-effective. Buy one portion of each snack to share, or you’ll be too full to walk!

Hope this guide helps you avoid all the traps and have a great time in Nanchang!
