Punakha Suspension Bridge – Swaying Above the River

After visiting the majestic Punakha Dzong, we made our way to the nearby Punakha Suspension Bridge — one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan, and definitely one of the most scenic!

The bridge stretches dramatically over the Pho Chhu River, fluttering with layers of colorful prayer flags that dance in the wind. Walking across it was both calming and just a little bit thrilling — it sways gently with every step, especially when the breeze picks up! When you reached the end of the bridge, there are some eateries for you to buy some drinks and snacks.

What I loved most was the view — lush hills, rushing river water below, and total quiet except for the wind and prayer flags. It’s not a difficult walk, but it’s such a memorable way to soak in the natural beauty of Punakha.

Tip: Combine this with a visit to Punakha Dzong for a perfect half-day outing.
