There’s something truly magical about Pingjiang Road in the early morning hours, before the crowds arrive and tour groups descend. We wandered the ancient cobblestone path alongside the tranquil canal,where the water mirrored the overhanging willows and traditional whitewashed houses with their distinctive black-tiled roofs. Quaint teahouses,artisan shops,and cozy cafes were just beginning to stir, their doors creaking open to reveal treasures like hand-embroidered silks and steaming cups of local biluochun tea. For a brief, golden moment, it felt like we had the charm of old Suzhou all to ourselves—the soft lapping of boat oars, the faint scent of breakfast dumplings, and the unhurried rhythm of a city waking up.
