Almost everyone who comes to Beijing to visit Tiananmen Square, Tiananmen Gate, the Forbidden City, and even Beihai Park and Jingshan Hill. However, many people give up visiting the parks on both sides of Tiananmen Gate, namely Zhongshan Park on the west side and Workers' Cultural Palace on the east side. The main reason for this is that they don't understand them well.
First of all, the tickets for these two parks are very cheap, one is 2 yuan and the other is 3 yuan, which are very cheap across the country. Secondly, the cultural heritage and scenery inside are very good.
Since the fall of 1982, I've visited these two parks many times, each time with new discoveries and experiences.
Zhongshan Park was the imperial altar of land and grain, where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties offered sacrifices to the gods of land and grain. They prayed for favorable weather, peace and prosperity for the people, and a long life for themselves. During the Republic of China era, Dr. Sun Yat-sen passed away in Beijing, and his coffin lay here for the public to pay their respects. In honor of this revolutionary pioneer, the park was renamed Zhongshan Park. In addition to major buildings such as the worship hall, Zhongshan Park also features the Baohe Archway, the Sun Yat-sen statue, the Zhongshan Hall, the Eight Pillars of Lanting, the Tanghuawu, the Maxim Pavilion, the Music Hall, and ancient trees, including locust and cypress trees. Boating is also possible in the Forbidden City's moat. The park also boasts a magnificent rockery and a surrounding lake. The shores are shaded by trees, and the reflections on the water are particularly beautiful. Along the stream path, pavilions such as Lai Jin Yu Xuan naturally form a series of beautiful scenes. Indeed, Zhongshan Park is a favorite place for couples to indulge in sweet nothings and enjoy the sounds of birdsong. There used to be a dating corner here, though it's unclear if it still exists. Zhongshan Park truly has that atmosphere.
If you come to Beijing, you might as well include this place in your itinerary. You will definitely have unexpected gains.
