I followed Mayday to Beijing ~ A Special Forces Journey with a Broken Leg

  • Number of days:5 days
  • Time: May
  • With whom: couple

Beijing really only has peak season and off-peak season. We came to Beijing in May, and this time we were there for a Mayday concert.

We only had five days in Beijing this time. After reading the travel guide last night, we realized how huge Beijing is. If we wanted to see all the classic things in Beijing, it would take at least a week (I think), so we carefully selected the attractions we wanted to visit. It wasn't a lot, but it was enough to make us walk a lot.

Begin the itinerary:

Day1 Guangzhou - Beijing - National Museum - Dashilan

Day2 Universal Studios Beijing

Day3 The Great Wall - Bird's Nest Concert

Day4 Tiananmen - Forbidden City - Drum Tower - Shichahai

Day5 Temple of Heaven - Niujie - Guangzhou

Day1 Guangzhou - Beijing - National Museum - Dashilan

You really need to plan your itinerary in advance for Beijing. You need to make reservations about a week in advance for all the classic attractions, and you may not be able to get tickets.

A quick complaint: accommodation in Beijing is incredibly expensive. We chose a hotel that's not even a few ring roads away from the city center, but it's very convenient to Daxing Airport. I still recommend staying in a hotel within the Third Ring Road next time you go to Beijing, so it's convenient to everything.

Landed at Beijing Daxing Airport, which is located in Hebei Province. Then I had to take a special train to the Beijing subway, which cost 25 or 35 yuan each way. Even a country bumpkin like me was shocked by the prices in the capital!

It took about 40 minutes to get from Daxing Airport to the hotel. I had an appointment to go to the National Museum of China that afternoon, so I dropped off my luggage, packed up, and headed over to the museum. The National Museum really needs some time to explore.

On a side note, you should have made an appointment to visit the National Museum in the morning so you can take your time to explore. After that, you can go directly to Tiananmen Square from the side door of the National Museum without having to queue again, which is very convenient. This time, time was limited, so I could only schedule my visit to the National Museum in the afternoon of the first day. Time was very tight, and I had to leave before I even finished seeing the Ancient China section on the underground floor. It was a pity. If I had come in the morning, I could have seen all the exhibition halls.

When making my travel guide, I highly recommend the Ancient China Pavilion. You can learn about the story of China from ancient times to the present day, and it was really exciting to see many of the artifacts in the textbooks appear before my eyes.

Across from the National Museum is the Tianmen An Gate. You must make an appointment in advance to climb the tower.

While waiting for a table, I happened to stroll around Dashilan, which is a commercial pedestrian street. I hadn't planned to come here specifically to check in.

The yogurt at Ziguangyuan is really delicious. I will buy it every time I pass by in the next few days.

After a quick stroll through Dashilar, we headed back to Siji Minfu to wait. After a long wait, it was finally our turn.

I ordered the signature roast duck and noodles with soybean paste. The prices at Siji Minfu are indeed expensive, and I didn't think the food was very tasty. There's really no need to check in specifically. Maybe I don't like oily food. I got sick of it after taking a bite of the roast duck.

It was already dark when we came out after eating. The night view of Dashilan is quite beautiful.

It was a really fulfilling day. I hurried back to the hotel. I had to go to Universal Studios the next day and had to get some rest.

Day 2 Universal Studios Beijing

Today is a day to go to Universal Studios. I bought the early bird ticket online in advance. It was only over 400 yuan per person, which is quite cheap.

Started the day early with a big Northeast burrito.

Let's go to Universal Studios. Next time I go there again, I'll stay nearby. It was almost 11 o'clock when we arrived at Universal Studios. There were already many people taking pictures of the facilities.

Even on weekdays, every facility is packed with people, at least half an hour long, and popular items at least an hour long.

The best part is the Harry Potter area. The others are also fun, but nothing special.

My favorite show is How to Train Your Dragon. It's so good to watch. You can even see the actor riding Toothless through the air. You have to sit in the first row on the second floor. The view is amazing.

It was a fun day playing from day to night. By the end, my legs were almost broken from walking. I was very tired.

Day 3 The Great Wall - Bird's Nest

If you're traveling with a tour group, the tour guide will ask you to buy a round-trip cable car. I think if you go on your own, you don't need to take the cable car because it only has one access point, which goes directly to Building 8 or 9 (I forgot), and then you climb a short distance to the highest point. The highlight is probably Haohanpo. But if you walk down Haohanpo from the cable car point to Building 11, you have to go back up again if you want to take the cable car, which is equivalent to walking back the way you came. And Haohanpo is also very difficult to climb.

Be sure to bring enough water and food. It's sunny and hot on the Great Wall, and the road is very shaking. We didn't bring enough water and felt like we almost died there. We also saw people asking the takeout guy to bring water, and it cost 300 yuan each time.

I was really shocked after reaching the Great Wall. It was incredible that a wall could be built on such a steep mountain. I grew up hearing about the Great Wall, but only after I grew up and visited it in person did I realize how shocking it was.

I can still happily take pictures at this moment, but I really can't climb anymore later.

I'm so thirsty! I'm tired and thirsty. The soldiers who defended the Great Wall in the past were really amazing.

After getting off the cable car, it was still before the meeting time, so I walked to Mixue Penang to buy milk tea to quench my thirst and rest for a long time.

Another enjoyable bowl of rice tonight, hehe.

Day4 Tiananmen Square - Forbidden City - Drum Tower

After this experience, if you have time in Beijing, it is best to sign up for a one-day guided tour of the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is really too big, and there are so many exhibits inside. In 3 hours, you can only visit the few halls in the middle. Time is tight, and you can see things very quickly. The Forbidden City is really worth spending a day to slowly visit.

My eyes got wet when I saw the Monument to the People's Heroes. The prosperity of our motherland is inseparable from them.

The five-star red flag fluttering in the sky makes me extremely proud. If time permits, it is worth watching a flag-raising ceremony.

Due to limited time, we did not go to the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and the Great Hall of the People. We walked around Tiananmen Square and took the subway to Wangfujing, preparing to go to the Forbidden City from Donghuamen. If we go directly to the Forbidden City from Tiananmen, we will have to wait in line for a long time. We went to Donghuamen and walked around to the main gate, where we can also enjoy the view of the moat.

I tried luzhu in Wangfujing at noon. I can’t say it’s bad, but I don’t really like the taste.

There was no queue to enter the Forbidden City in the afternoon, so it was very smooth. I found my tour guide and followed him around.

The royal family in the past really knew how to enjoy life. Everything was extravagant to the extreme.

After leaving the Forbidden City, you can go to Jingshan Park across the street to see a panoramic view of the Forbidden City. We were too tired to walk up the mountain, so we went straight to dinner.

Beijing's hot pot is very good, but I don't know if it's because I chose a bad restaurant, but I didn't think it tasted good.

After eating, I rode my bike to the Drum Tower to see that Beijing is really full of people.

Shichahai is quite beautiful in the evening.

A huge number of people came here to buy refrigerator magnets.

Another day of running wild. I feel like my legs are going to break.

Day5 Temple of Heaven - Niujie - Guangzhou

Today I went to the Temple of Heaven. It is said that the Temple of Heaven is the most iconic building in Beijing and the business card of Beijing.

It used to be the place where the emperor offered sacrifices to heaven. It is very solemn.

You can spend a whole morning at the Temple of Heaven. It's not particularly large, but it's great for taking photos.

After leaving the Temple of Heaven, we went to the famous Niujie Street to see if there was anything delicious to eat. Actually, there was nothing particularly delicious. During the few days in Beijing, no meal I had was very delicious. Maybe I am not suited to the taste of Beijingers (covering my face)

Finally, we went to Daoxiangcun in Dashilar to buy souvenirs. I think the best ones are Daoxiangcun’s pastries, especially the ones sold in bulk. They are very delicious.

It’s time to go back. Goodbye Beijing

Finally, here's the Beijing food guide my Great Wall tour guide gave me. I didn't check in, so I don't know if it's good or not.
