Introducing Fanlou

Located at the north end of Songdu Imperial Street, Fanlou, also known as Fanlou, is a group of courtyard-style pavilions rebuilt in 1988. It is also the largest Song-style entertainment center in Kaifeng.

Rebuilt in 1988 based on historical records, Fanlou is a group of courtyard-style pavilions. Legend has it that Fanlou was the most famous of the 72 taverns in Tokyo during the Northern Song Dynasty. The romantic Emperor Huizong of Song often met with the renowned courtesan Li Shishi of Kyoto, and the novel "Water Margin" also features numerous descriptions of the building. The Song Dynasty poet Liu Zihui (pronounced the same as "hui") commemorated the place with the lines, "The singing and dancing in Liangyuan are full of elegance; fine wine is like a knife that soothes sorrow. Remembering the joys of peacetime, I ascend Fanlou to the lights at night." Fanlou consists of five buildings: East, West, South, North, and Center. Architecturally clad in gray tiles and blue bricks, with carved beams and painted rafters, the building boasts a magnificent, simple, and elegant design.
