Crane Point or Curry Hammock

Hello,

Which one do you prefer Crane Point or Curry Hammock?

I’m down here now staying in Key Largo so it’s a little drive to both.

Both Crane Point and Curry Hammock are excellent nature-focused destinations in the Marathon area of the Florida Keys, but they offer different experiences depending on what you are looking for.

Crane Point Hammock & Museum: This is more of a cultural and educational experience combined with a nature walk. It’s a 63-acre tropical hardwood hammock with several short trails, a small museum, and a historic home. The trails are well-maintained and easy to walk, making it suitable for a relaxed stroll. It’s great if you enjoy learning about local history, native plants, and wildlife.

  • Easy walking trails through shaded hammocks.
  • Historic homes and small museum with exhibits about the Keys’ history.
  • Good for birdwatching, small wildlife, and photography.
  • Short visit, typically 1-2 hours is enough.

Curry Hammock State Park: This is ideal if you’re looking for a more active outdoor adventure. It offers kayaking, paddleboarding, biking, and hiking through mangroves and coastal trails. The park has beach access and picnic areas, making it a good choice if you want a mix of nature, water activities, and a slightly longer outdoor excursion.

  • Kayak and paddleboard rentals to explore the bay and mangroves.
  • Nature trails and birdwatching opportunities.
  • Beach access for swimming and relaxing by the water.
  • Picnic areas for a longer, leisurely visit.

In summary:

  • Choose Crane Point if you prefer a quieter, educational visit with easy walking and some history.
  • Choose Curry Hammock if you want a more active experience with water access, wildlife, and the option to spend a few hours outdoors.
  • Both are worth visiting if you have time, but since you’re coming from Key Largo, you may want to pick based on whether you’re more interested in a short, relaxed nature/history experience or a longer outdoor adventure.

For a single visit with limited time, many travelers prefer Curry Hammock for its variety of activities and the chance to enjoy water and nature in one spot, while Crane Point is perfect for a calm, informative stroll into local history and wildlife.
