Dining Recommendation

We are traveling to the Florida Keys the first week of February, taking 10 days to go from Miami to (and including) Key West. We have 2 days in the Key Largo area. Any suggestions on restaurants around Key Largo? I'm planning on probably one night at C & C's. I've looked at a number of other restaurants in the area but haven't found a solid thumbs up anywhere. Chef Michael's in Islamorada looks fantastic, but is probably a longer drive than I'd prefer. We like fresh fish, scallops, lobster etc. and try to stay away from the standard "bar food" menu if possible. Thanks!

Key Largo has some excellent dining options for fresh seafood and a more refined menu than the typical tourist bar fare. Since you already have C & C’s planned, here are a few other standout options to consider during your two-day stay:

  • Hobo’s Cafe: A casual yet highly praised spot for fresh fish, scallops, and seafood specials. Known for locally sourced ingredients and a relaxed atmosphere. Great for lunch or an early dinner.
  • Fish House Encore: Slightly upscale and family-friendly, offering fresh catches, lobster, and a nice selection of tropical cocktails. It has a local feel and excellent reviews for freshness and flavor.
  • Snook’s Bayside Restaurant: Famous for its waterfront views and fresh seafood dishes. Ideal for enjoying a sunset dinner with lobster, grouper, and scallops. Known for good service and a pleasant ambiance.

If you are willing to drive a bit into Islamorada, Chef Michael’s is definitely worth the trip for a fine dining experience featuring creative seafood dishes and an intimate atmosphere. For something in between casual and upscale:

  • Key Largo Conch House: Offers a mix of Caribbean-inspired seafood and Florida Keys classics, with a relaxed but quality dining environment. A good choice if you want local flavors without a long drive.
  • Skippers Dockside: Waterfront dining with fresh catches daily, focusing on fish, lobster, and scallops. Slightly more casual but highly regarded for seafood quality and views.

For your Key Largo stay, these options provide a nice mix of casual and slightly upscale experiences, all with a focus on fresh seafood beyond typical bar menus. Planning a sunset or waterfront dinner is a great way to enjoy the Florida Keys vibe.
