Best Cuban Sandwich

I’m reporting that Southern Living magazine voters have picked the Columbia restaurant on St Armand’s as number 1. I’ve had it as well as many other dishes and I agree. Although Mixons which has closed was up there too. Don’t forget to get the Sangria made table side.

Usually a line get there early.

If you’re in Sarasota and craving an authentic Cuban sandwich, the Columbia Restaurant on St. Armand’s Circle is widely regarded as the top choice, having been recognized by Southern Living magazine voters. It’s a classic destination for both locals and visitors and has a rich history of serving Cuban and Spanish cuisine.

Highlights of visiting Columbia Restaurant:

  • The Cuban Sandwich: Their take on this iconic sandwich is perfectly pressed, with flavorful roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on Cuban bread. Many visitors agree it’s the best in the area.
  • Table-side Sangria: A signature experience—watch the staff prepare Sangria at your table, which is both fun and delicious.
  • Other dishes: Besides the Cuban sandwich, Columbia offers a variety of Spanish and Cuban-inspired dishes if you want to try more of their menu.

Practical tips:

  • Arrive early: This is a popular spot, especially for lunch or dinner, and lines can form quickly.
  • Reservations: Consider calling ahead or checking for reservations if you’re visiting during peak times.
  • Casual vibe: The restaurant maintains a casual but lively atmosphere, so it’s perfect for families or groups looking for a classic Sarasota dining experience.

While other local spots like the former Mixon’s were also highly regarded, Columbia remains the go-to destination for a true Cuban sandwich experience in Sarasota.
