Hotel recommendations

Question

We are a couple in our 60's who will be in Savannah at the end of May for a few days. We are in the Hilton Honors Program and so are looking at staying at Homewood Suites, Embassy Suites or Hampton. We are thinking it might be best to stay in the Hisoric District. We do have a car rental and this is our first trip to Savannah. Recommendations for which hotel to stay in (see above)? Please tell us a few of your must-sees and favorite medium-priced restaurants in the area. Thanks in advance!

Hotel Recommendations:

Homewood Suites - This is a great option if you’re looking for more space and amenities like a full kitchen, which can be helpful for longer stays. It’s located near the Historic District, though a little off the main tourist areas. You’ll get a comfortable, home-like feel with the convenience of a central location. The complimentary breakfast and evening social (depending on the day) are nice perks.
Embassy Suites - This hotel offers larger suites, and the free made-to-order breakfast is a nice touch, especially if you’re looking for a good start to your day. The Embassy Suites is centrally located, just a short walk from the Historic District and River Street. It’s a great choice if you prefer a slightly more upscale experience but still within a reasonable price range.
Hampton Inn - If you prefer a simpler, more straightforward stay, Hampton Inn is a solid choice. Forsyth Park: This is a must-see! It’s a beautiful park with a stunning fountain, perfect for a stroll or relaxing under the oak trees. The park is a great place to start your exploration of the Historic District.
River Street: A bustling area with shops, cafes, and great views of the Savannah River. It’s one of the most iconic spots in the city, and while it can get crowded, it’s a must-visit for first-timers.
Bonaventure Cemetery: If you’re into history and photography, the Bonaventure Cemetery is a beautiful, tranquil spot full of old southern charm and famous historical figures. It's slightly outside the main tourist areas but still very accessible.

Favorite Medium-Priced Restaurants:

Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room: A Savannah institution, offering traditional southern comfort food served family-style. It’s a casual spot but beloved by locals and visitors alike, and the prices are reasonable.
The Collins Quarter: A great spot for brunch or lunch, with an Australian twist on southern favorites. Their Bloody Marys and avocado toast are popular choices.
