Long Weekend in June - Young Kids
We have two young kids (3 and 4.5) and will be in Cape Code Friday-Monday mid-June. We like staying at nice hotels that have nice grounds to walk with the kids, and either restaurants and amenities onsite or are walkable to quaint towns. The budget is $1-$2k per night. Any suggestions or where to stay/ parts of the cape to visit? Of course, wed love to go to the beach but are aware it might still be chilly in mid June.
Visiting Cape Cod in mid-June with young kids can be a delightful experience. At that time, the weather is warming up, though the ocean can still be cool for swimming. Since you’re looking for upscale accommodations with nice grounds, walkability to quaint towns, and family-friendly amenities, there are several areas and hotels worth considering.
For a convenient and picturesque location, consider staying on the Mid or Outer Cape. These areas combine charming towns with access to beaches and activities for children:
- Chatham: Offers a quaint village center with shops and restaurants, beaches nearby, and a relaxed vibe perfect for families.
- Orleans: Centrally located, close to both bay and ocean beaches, and has family-friendly dining.
- Wellfleet: Known for its artsy charm, beaches, and beautiful marshes. Great for scenic walks and outdoor activities.
- Hyannis: More commercial but convenient for amenities, ferry access to the islands, and family-friendly restaurants.
Recommended upscale family-friendly hotels and resorts with nice grounds include:
- Chatham Bars Inn: Classic Cape Cod resort with beautiful oceanfront grounds, multiple dining options, kids’ programs, and walking paths. The property offers access to private beach areas.
- The Mansion at Ocean Edge (Brewster): Spacious grounds with gardens, walking trails, pools, and family-friendly activities. Located near Orleans for shopping and casual dining.
- The Wequassett Resort and Golf Club (Harwich): Elegant resort with ocean views, beach access, expansive lawns, and amenities suitable for young children.
- Chatham Seaside Beach Hotel: Smaller boutique hotel with easy beach access, a family-friendly environment, and close proximity to Chatham’s main street.
Activities and sights suitable for young kids:
- Short nature walks at Cape Cod National Seashore trails and marshes.
- Visit local lighthouses such as Nauset Light or Chatham Light—fun for kids and photo opportunities.
- Mini-golf, local playgrounds, and family-oriented beaches.
- Quaint town exploration in Chatham, Wellfleet, or Orleans with ice cream shops, bakeries, and local boutiques.
Tips for your trip:
- Book accommodations early, as June weekends are popular and high-end hotels fill quickly.
- Pack layers for beach visits; even sunny days can be cool with ocean breezes.
- Consider staying somewhere with onsite dining or easy walking access to restaurants to make evenings with young kids less stressful.
Overall, a mid-Cape location such as Chatham or Orleans balances charm, convenience, and family-friendly amenities, making it ideal for a short, luxurious weekend with small children.
