Question

I'm planning to Xi'an in Dec and some travellers said 3 days would be sufficient. Its my first time to China and where else can I spend time while in Xi'an? Thanks.

Day 1 – Ancient City Highlights: Visit the Ancient City Wall, which you can walk or cycle around for great city views. Explore the Bell Tower and Drum Tower in the city center, and wander through the Muslim Quarter to experience local food and market culture.
Day 2 – Terracotta Army and Surroundings: Take a half-day trip to the Terracotta Army Museum, about 1 hour from the city center. You can also visit the nearby Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum if time allows. Return to Xi'an and consider an evening stroll along the city walls or a Tang Dynasty show with dinner.
Day 3 – Temples and Museums: Visit the Great Mosque, a unique blend of Chinese and Islamic architecture. Explore the Shaanxi History Museum for a deeper understanding of the region's history. If time permits, take a short trip to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda or hike in the surrounding hills for panoramic views.

If you have extra time or want to extend your stay, consider the following options outside Xi’an:

Mount Huashan: Famous for its steep hiking trails and scenic beauty, about 2 hours from Xi’an by train. A day trip is possible but requires good planning.
Famen Temple: About 1.5 hours away, known for its Buddhist relics and beautiful pagoda complex.
Local countryside villages: Some tourists explore nearby villages to see traditional Shaanxi culture and rural landscapes.

In winter (December), Xi'an can be cold, so dress warmly, especially for outdoor sites like the Terracotta Army and city walls. Public transport and taxis are convenient for getting around, and most attractions are well signposted in English.
