2 Nights in HK prior to cruise. Hotel location question

We will be coming out a couple of days before a cruise and I have looking at hotels. There is a huge selection and they are scattered all over the districts. We are not too bothered about the location with regards to eating etc but would like one that would provide a great view in the evening. In which area should I be looking?

We will likely be using the Airport Express if that has any bearing on the replies.

Thanks

For a short stay in Hong Kong with the goal of enjoying great evening views, the area you choose is crucial. Since you’re coming in via the Airport Express and don’t mind being a little away from the main dining districts, you have several excellent options.

The most iconic views in Hong Kong are of Victoria Harbour, especially the skyline of Hong Kong Island as seen from Kowloon. Hotels along the Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) waterfront or in Admiralty/Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island are ideal for evening views with the harbor and city lights.

  • Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon side): Offers stunning views of the Hong Kong Island skyline. Many hotels here have rooms facing the harbor, giving you a spectacular night view of skyscrapers and Victoria Harbour. The Avenue of Stars and the Symphony of Lights show are right nearby.
  • Admiralty/Wan Chai (Hong Kong Island): Hotels along the waterfront provide excellent views of Kowloon across the harbour. This side is slightly quieter at night compared to Tsim Sha Tsui and has good access to the Star Ferry for scenic trips.
  • Central/Sheung Wan (Hong Kong Island): While a bit farther from the cruise terminals, some hotels offer views of the harbour and skyline. The area is closer to the mid-levels and iconic buildings, which can be great for photos at dusk.

Since you’ll likely take the Airport Express, staying near the Kowloon station is convenient. Many hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui are only a short taxi or MTR ride from the Tsing Yi or Kowloon station, making transfer to the cruise port smooth.

  • Look for hotels specifically advertising “harbour view” rooms, as not all rooms face the water.
  • Check if the hotel has rooftop bars or observation decks for panoramic evening city views.
  • Consider proximity to the Star Ferry pier if you want a quick evening cruise for sightseeing.

In summary, for stunning evening skyline views and convenient transit from the airport, Tsim Sha Tsui is generally the best bet. Admiralty/Wan Chai are also excellent options if you prefer the Hong Kong Island side. Prioritize hotels with harbor-view rooms to maximize the scenic experience during your two-night stay.
