San Diego for the evening

Hi Friends

Would be visiting the San Diego Zoo and plan to stay the night before heading to LA the next morning. Prob staying at Westgate Hotel. Any recommendations to spend the evening w 2 kids 8 and 14. Some shopping and affordable eats?

Thanks again!

Staying at the Westgate Hotel in San Diego puts you right in the Gaslamp Quarter, which is perfect for an evening stroll with kids. Since you’ll be coming from the Zoo, you’ll likely want something close by, fun, and not too late.

Evening Activities with Kids:

  • Gaslamp Quarter Walk: The streets are lively with lights, street performers, and easy walking. Great for a short exploration and photos.
  • Seaport Village: About a 10-minute drive from the Westgate, this waterfront shopping area has unique shops, small arcades, and often live music. Perfect for a relaxed evening stroll with kids.
  • Little Italy: Around 10 minutes away by car, offers a mix of casual dining options and gelato shops for a sweet treat after dinner.

Affordable Eats:

  • Cafe 222: Casual breakfast-lunch spot with fun kid-friendly options; a short drive away.
  • Rubio’s Coastal Grill: Affordable tacos, burritos, and bowls. Kids usually love it.
  • Extraordinary Desserts: For a special treat, the dessert options are impressive and visually fun for kids.
  • Pizza Port or local pizzerias: Good casual choice, popular with families.

Other Options:

  • New Children’s Museum: Located downtown, interactive exhibits for younger kids and some for teens too. Great for a short visit if time allows.
  • Embarcadero Marina Park: Nice evening walk, views of the harbor, and open space for kids to stretch their legs.

Overall, a casual evening in the Gaslamp Quarter or nearby waterfront areas with dinner and a short stroll should give you a relaxing and kid-friendly evening before your drive to LA the next day.
