Family Activities Christmas Week at Keystone

I will be traveling to Keystone with my family . We have a 5 year old and want to partake in any kid fun activities that are holiday festive. What is there besides the sleigh ride for the week of christmas. Also, if anyone has tubed, any suggestions on this. I'm trying to figure out if we need an epic pass, or if we would just be fine with the lift+tubing pass. Our hotel is already giving us free kids passes for the lift. We booked a train ride in georgetown, but the santa lighted train is already sold out for all days that we are there. Anything in brekeridge or any other nearby towns? Also, how do people manage a car seat, or uber /shuttle with car seats. I dont see that there are any ubers with car seats. We dont plan on driving. We will take an uber/shuttle to and from hotel to the airport.

Keystone is a fantastic family-friendly destination during the Christmas week, especially with a 5-year-old. There are a number of kid-oriented, festive activities beyond the classic sleigh rides that can make your holiday trip memorable.

Here are some options for festive, family-friendly activities in Keystone and nearby towns:

  • Kidtopia Village: Keystone Resort hosts Kidtopia, a holiday-themed kids’ program with activities like cookie decorating, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, and live shows. It’s designed specifically for younger children.
  • Ice Skating: Keystone has ice skating rinks at the resort, including the outdoor rink at Keystone Lake, which is beautifully decorated during the holidays. Skating rentals are available on-site.
  • Snow Tubing: Adventure Point offers snow tubing hills suitable for kids and adults. Kids as young as 3 can usually tube with a parent, and the park has conveyor lifts to make it easy to get back up the hill.
  • Holiday Light Displays: Check nearby towns like Breckenridge or Frisco for festive light displays. Breckenridge, for instance, has the Snowflake Festival and holiday parades, which can be fun for families with little ones.
  • Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides: Besides Keystone, nearby resorts like Breckenridge may offer their own sleigh rides if you want to explore another area.

Regarding tubing, here are some tips and options:

  • Adventure Point at Keystone has multiple lanes for tubing. Tickets can be purchased for lift-accessed tubing, which is easy for families.
  • Tubing is usually done in 2-hour sessions, and children typically need to be accompanied by an adult.
  • It’s best to reserve tubing passes online ahead of time for holiday weeks, as it can get crowded.

About lift tickets and passes:

  • Since your hotel is providing free kids’ lift passes, you likely don’t need an Epic Pass unless you plan to ski multiple days or explore other Vail resorts during your trip.
  • A lift + tubing pass for adults is sufficient if your focus is primarily on tubing and general resort activities rather than skiing or snowboarding.

Regarding transportation with a car seat:

  • Standard Ubers in the area usually do not provide car seats. You can request an Uber with a car seat in some areas using the "Uber Car Seat" option, but availability is limited in mountain towns.
  • Many families opt for private shuttles that can accommodate car seats. Companies like Colorado Mountain Express (CME) and Summit Express offer shuttle service with child car seat options if requested in advance.
  • Some hotels may also provide shuttle services with car seats for airport transfers, so check with your Keystone accommodation before arrival.

In summary, with a 5-year-old, you’ll have plenty of festive, non-skiing activities at Keystone, including Kidtopia, tubing, ice skating, sleigh rides, and nearby holiday events. You don’t necessarily need an Epic Pass for this type of visit, and arranging transportation with a car seat will require advance planning with a shuttle or specialized service.
