Paracetamol in US

Hi guys

I'm visiting family in Colorado next week and my cousin has asked me to bring her out some Paracetamol (from the UK) as it is great for her back pain!

Happy to do this but just wondering if there is a limit to how many packs I can bring her?

Or could someone advise where I could find this information out?

Thanks :)

If you are planning to bring Paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen in the US) from the UK to the United States, there are a few important points to keep in mind regarding import limits and legality.

In the US, acetaminophen is widely available over the counter in pharmacies, supermarkets, and convenience stores, so it’s generally not necessary to bring your own supply. However, if you still want to bring some:

  • For personal use, the US allows travelers to bring reasonable quantities of over-the-counter medications. “Reasonable” usually means enough for your stay or for personal treatment, typically up to 90 days’ supply. Carrying multiple large packs could raise questions at Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
  • All medications must be in their original packaging, clearly labeled, and intended for personal use. Loose tablets or repackaged medicines can be problematic.
  • You may be asked to declare any medications at customs. Failure to declare can result in confiscation or fines.

If you prefer not to risk any issues at customs or want to avoid carrying medication internationally, you can easily purchase acetaminophen in Colorado:

  • Pharmacies such as CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid carry acetaminophen under brand names like Tylenol or generic labels.
  • Most supermarkets (King Soopers, Safeway, Walmart) also sell acetaminophen over the counter.
  • It is inexpensive and widely available, so buying locally is often the easiest option.

For official information on bringing medications into the United States, you can consult the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website or contact them directly. They provide guidance on limits for personal-use medications, documentation, and declaration requirements.

In summary, bringing a small personal supply is generally allowed, but for convenience and compliance, purchasing acetaminophen locally in Colorado is simple, safe, and avoids any potential customs issues.
