Hotel Rec-Winter w/ Kids, 2 days

First timers to DC...quick first trip with 8 year old and 5 year old who want to see the basics (Mall Area). Two full days. Looking at Willard Intercontinental or the Salamander...they seem super close to the mall. Are these good spots or am I missing something?
