Day trip to the Bahamas

Hi All.

We are coming to Palm Beach in February and I believe there are day trips to the Bahamas?

Is this correct and if it is, roughly how much is this and is it worth it?

Any links to any ferries that handles this trip would be grateful as I’ve searched the web but can’t find anything recent. So any information would be appreciated

Yes, there are indeed day trips to the Bahamas from the Florida area, though from West Palm Beach specifically, options are somewhat limited compared to Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Most Bahamas day trips depart from ports like Fort Lauderdale or Palm Beach, targeting destinations such as Bimini or Nassau.

Typical details and considerations for these trips:

  • Most ferries or high-speed catamarans take about 2–3 hours each way to reach the Bahamas from Palm Beach or nearby ports.
  • Prices for a round-trip day excursion vary, generally ranging from $150 to $200 per adult, sometimes including some onboard amenities like breakfast or lunch, but not always.
  • Some operators offer additional packages such as guided tours, beach access, or optional water activities on arrival.

Operators and options include:

  • Balearia Caribbean – Offers ferry service to Bimini with round-trip day packages.
  • Paradise Ferry – High-speed service from Palm Beach to Bimini with limited day trip options.
  • Other cruise operators – Some local tour companies in West Palm Beach may offer Bahamas day cruises, but availability in February can be seasonal and requires booking in advance.

Whether it is “worth it” depends on your priorities. The day trip allows you to see a part of the Bahamas, enjoy beaches, and sometimes shopping or water sports. However, the travel time means you will spend several hours on the boat, leaving a limited window on the islands themselves. Many travelers recommend an overnight stay if possible to make the most of the Bahamas experience.

Tips:

  • Book well in advance, especially for February, which can be busy.
  • Check for cancellations or weather advisories as trips are weather-dependent.
  • Bring sunscreen, water, and ID/passport, as you will be entering a foreign country.

Overall, a Bahamas day trip from West Palm Beach or nearby ports can be a fun experience, but be prepared for a long day and plan accordingly if you want to maximize your time on the island.
