Uber or Lyft

Is it easy to get Uber or Lyft from your condo in steamboat Springs to the resort or to town for dinner? I see our condo is on the bus line, but sometimes with two kids that can still be challenging to lug all the gear.

Also, can you get it from Hayden airport or should you book transportation ahead of time?

Thanks!

Steamboat Springs is a great winter destination, but rideshare availability can be inconsistent—especially during peak ski season and with kids and gear in tow. Planning ahead will save you time and stress.

Within Steamboat (condo → mountain → downtown), Uber and Lyft do exist, but they are not always plentiful. Many visitors rely on the free bus system, which is excellent but understandably more challenging when carrying children’s ski gear. Knowing what to expect will help you decide when to rely on rideshare vs. when to choose alternatives.

For Hayden Airport (HDN), you should not plan on getting an Uber or Lyft upon arrival. Instead, most travelers pre-book airport transportation because rideshares are extremely limited there.

  • Uber/Lyft Availability in Steamboat – Rides are hit-or-miss. You may find a driver quickly in the afternoons or evenings, but mornings (when people head to the lifts) can be especially competitive.
  • The Free Steamboat Bus – Very reliable, easy to use, and runs frequently between condos, the ski base, and downtown. But carrying gear with small kids can be tiring.
  • Private Shuttle Options – For airport transfers, companies like Steamboat Express or Go Alpine are the norm and much more dependable than rideshare apps.

In town you will still be able to use rideshare occasionally, but it’s good to have backup options if all drivers are busy or unavailable.

For airport transfers, pre-booking is highly recommended.

  • Go Alpine (by Colorado Mountain Express) – Shared and private shuttles between Hayden and Steamboat.
  • Steamboat Express – Large-scale shared shuttles with reliable schedules.
  • Storm Mountain Express – Good for smaller private groups wanting door-to-door service.

If you’re traveling with kids and bulky gear, consider asking your condo if they offer a private shuttle to the base area—many lodging properties in Steamboat do, especially during ski season.

Overall, Uber and Lyft can work for quick trips around town, but they should not be your sole plan. For the airport specifically, booking transportation ahead of time is the best and most reliable choice.
