Any Good Areas to Walk Around for a bit?
Coming in two weeks for two days to Phoenix.
Got a few things planned during day. But what about in the evenings, are there any good places to walk around, or is it spread out and mostly drivable?
Any suggestions, of a 'downtownish' place to just walk around, grab a bite, a drink, window shop, etc?
Same for Scottsdale. Must see places, etc?
Phoenix and nearby Scottsdale have several areas that are well-suited for evening strolls, dining, and light shopping, even though much of the metro area is car-oriented. For just walking around and enjoying the atmosphere, there are a few “downtownish” neighborhoods that work best.
Phoenix Downtown Walks
- Roosevelt Row Arts District – This is the main arts and cultural district downtown, featuring murals, galleries, boutiques, and plenty of casual restaurants. Great for a relaxed evening walk with art stops and local coffee shops or craft cocktails.
- CityScape – A compact urban development with restaurants, bars, and shops in the heart of downtown. You can easily walk around here in 30–45 minutes and grab dinner or drinks.
- Heritage & Evans-Centennial Square – A smaller historic area with interesting architecture, public art, and occasional evening events.
Scottsdale Walkable Areas
- Old Town Scottsdale – Definitely the best area for strolling. It’s pedestrian-friendly, with art galleries, souvenir shops, clothing boutiques, and a variety of restaurants and bars. Perfect for evening walks and window shopping.
- Scottsdale Waterfront – Connected to Old Town, along the Arizona Canal. Offers scenic walking paths, outdoor seating, restaurants, and seasonal events.
- Marshall Way Arts District – A quieter, art-focused area near Old Town, with sculptures, galleries, and outdoor installations. Good for a more relaxed stroll away from the main crowds.
Tips for Walking Evenings
- Both downtown Phoenix and Old Town Scottsdale have street parking and some paid lots, but rideshare (Uber/Lyft) is often easiest if you plan to enjoy drinks.
- Evenings in winter are cooler, so dress in layers.
- Try to combine dinner with your stroll – many restaurants have patios or rooftop seating for a scenic, relaxed vibe.
- Weekends and holiday periods may have live music, markets, or art walks in both Roosevelt Row and Old Town Scottsdale.
Overall, for casual evening walks with food, drinks, and a lively atmosphere, Roosevelt Row and CityScape in Phoenix and Old Town/Scottsdale Waterfront in Scottsdale are your best bets.
