Tourist visa

Hi all,

Here is what I just read:

"The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days. Issued to those who intend to go to China as a tourist".

Up to now, tourists couldn't really get a single entry visa exceeding 30 days.

Does that mean it is a new regulation ? (Which would be excellent news !)

Yes, recent updates to China’s visa policy have indeed increased the maximum duration for tourist visas. Previously, it was more common for single-entry tourist visas to be issued for 30 days, with multiple-entry visas sometimes valid for 60 or 90 days depending on nationality and consular discretion.

According to the latest information, Chinese tourist visas (L visas) can now be issued for up to 180 days total duration, which may include single or multiple entries. However, the exact duration granted depends on the consulate’s decision, the applicant’s nationality, and supporting documents submitted with the application.

Important considerations:

  • Not all consulates may automatically grant 180-day visas; applicants should clearly indicate their intended stay and provide supporting travel itineraries.
  • Single-entry visas may still be shorter than multiple-entry visas. Some applicants may receive 30, 60, or 90-day visas even under the new regulations.
  • Applicants should always verify with the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country before applying, as the final decision rests with the visa officer.

Overall, this change does represent a positive development for long-term tourists, allowing for longer stays without needing multiple visa applications. It is advisable to prepare complete documentation to increase the likelihood of receiving the maximum allowed duration.
