Grand Canyon help!

I will be traveling to Phoenix from Atlanta with my 3 nephews February 15th-19th and would kindly ask for your advice on how to plan my days. We are not looking to do much hiking. We arrive on the 15th at 10pm and depart on the 19th at 4:04pm. I'm interested in taking them to the Canyon, Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe bend. I would really like your feedback on how to plan my trip.

With your timeframe and interest in minimal hiking, a structured approach focusing on sightseeing and accessible viewpoints will work best. Since you arrive late on February 15th, plan to start fresh on the 16th.

Suggested itinerary:

  • February 16: Early drive from Phoenix to Page, AZ (approx. 4.5–5 hours). Check into your hotel and get settled. Depending on arrival time, you could do a quick visit to Horseshoe Bend for sunset. This is a short 1.5-mile round trip from the parking area to the overlook, manageable for all ages.
  • February 17: Morning visit to Antelope Canyon. Book a guided tour in advance as it is required to access the slot canyons. Choose Upper Antelope Canyon for easier walking or Lower Antelope Canyon if your group is up for some mild climbing. Afternoon can be used to explore Lake Powell viewpoints or relax in Page.
  • February 18: Drive to Grand Canyon South Rim (approx. 2.5–3 hours). Enter via the Desert View Drive or use the Visitor Center as a central point. Focus on scenic overlooks like Mather Point, Yavapai Point, and Hopi Point. Take short walks along the Rim Trail which is mostly flat and safe for kids. Consider bringing a picnic lunch to enjoy the views.
  • February 19: Early morning optional short viewpoint visit if time allows. Drive back to Phoenix (approx. 3.5–4 hours) in time for your 4:04 pm flight.

Additional tips:

  • Book Antelope Canyon tour and any Grand Canyon accommodations in advance, especially in February when options can be limited.
  • Fuel up your vehicle ahead of long stretches, especially between Page and the Grand Canyon.
  • Pack snacks, water, and layers—temperatures can be cool in February, especially at the Canyon.
  • If you prefer not to drive long distances, consider a guided day tour from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon or Page, but with a group of four, self-driving may give more flexibility.
  • Allow for extra time at viewpoints, as kids may want to explore and take photos.

This plan balances travel, sightseeing, and minimal physical strain, ensuring you can enjoy the natural wonders without extensive hiking.
