Miramar Beach or Emerald Grande Rental?
Hi, we are from PA and planning to go to The Destin area this summer (July 16-22). We have us (2 adults mid 50’s, and rest of our family 3 or 4 young adults (all 21+).
Trying to decide between Emerald Grande at Harborfront and Miramar Beach (Majestic Sun). We’ve not been to the area so looking for some advice? I like the idea of being able to walk to the beach at Miramar and beachy bars/restaurants, but I know it’s further from other stuff (Crab Island, etc).
Also, deciding whether or not to rent a car, or golf cart or neither and just walk/uber?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
Missy
Choosing between Emerald Grande at HarborWalk Village and Miramar Beach (Majestic Sun) really depends on the type of vacation you want and how you plan to get around. Both areas offer beautiful beaches and amenities, but they have very different vibes and accessibility to attractions.
Emerald Grande at HarborWalk Village:
- Located directly on the Destin Harbor, giving you access to restaurants, bars, shops, and nightlife within walking distance.
- Close to Crab Island, harbor cruises, and other boat-based activities, making it convenient if your group wants water sports or tours.
- Units often have harbor views, and the complex offers pools, hot tubs, and fitness facilities.
- Parking is available, but you could likely get by without a car if you mainly want to explore the harbor area and walk to restaurants.
Miramar Beach / Majestic Sun:
- Located directly on the Gulf of Mexico, with stunning white sand beaches just steps from your rental.
- Walkable to a few local beach bars and restaurants, but further from Destin Harbor attractions like Crab Island.
- Better suited for a relaxing beach-focused trip, with fewer crowds compared to the harbor area.
- Having a car is more convenient if you plan to explore restaurants, shopping centers, or take day trips around the area.
Transportation considerations:
- If staying at Emerald Grande, you can mostly walk to restaurants, bars, and entertainment, so a car isn’t essential.
- If staying at Miramar Beach, a car or Uber will be helpful for grocery runs, dining out, and sightseeing beyond the immediate beach area.
- Golf carts can be fun for short local trips within Miramar or neighborhood areas, but they are not practical for longer distances or highways.
Summary: Choose Emerald Grande if your group wants vibrant nightlife, harbor activities, and convenience without driving. Choose Miramar Beach if your focus is on beach time, swimming, and a more laid-back atmosphere, but plan on renting a car to get around efficiently. Both are excellent options; it really depends on whether your priority is nightlife/harbor activities versus beach relaxation.
