Buying plane tix for April Trip

We are traveling from Philly to Scottsdale (flying into PHX) in mid-April. Already booked at a timeshare -- Scottsdale Villa Mirage -- so looking for when to book the airfare? Planning on beginning of February, but too late or too soon? Probably flying American, as they are the only non-stop PHL-PHX and we have their AA Credit Card.

Thanks for info -- will check back later for restaurant recommendations.

For a mid-April trip from Philadelphia to Phoenix (PHX), timing your airfare purchase is important to balance cost and availability. Since you are already booked at Scottsdale Villa Mirage, you have the dates locked in, which makes it easier to plan your flight purchase.

When to book:

  • For domestic U.S. flights, the general recommendation is to book between 1.5 to 3 months before departure for the best fares. For a mid-April trip, booking in early February is actually ideal. You are within the optimal window, not too late and not too early.
  • American Airlines flights, especially non-stop PHL-PHX, can sometimes fluctuate in price, so checking periodically from now through early February is useful. Setting fare alerts can help you spot dips.
  • Since you have an American Airlines credit card, you may also have points, upgrades, or early access to certain fare classes, which can be an advantage if you book around the beginning of February.

Additional tips:

  • Check both the main American Airlines website and AA’s mobile app; sometimes app-exclusive fares are available.
  • Midweek flights (Tuesday–Thursday) tend to be slightly cheaper than weekends, so if your schedule is flexible, aim for these days.
  • Consider booking your seats as soon as you find a reasonable fare, because non-stop routes can sell out faster, especially in spring when travel to Arizona is popular.
  • Monitor the American Airlines fare calendar in January to get a sense of pricing trends leading into February.

In summary, booking in early February for a mid-April trip is a good strategy for non-stop PHL-PHX flights with American Airlines. You should be well-positioned to get a reasonable fare while still having access to seat selection and any benefits from your AA credit card.
