AZ Biltmore, Westin Kierland, or Phoenician

Which resort would you stay at with a 14 and 10 yr old over President’s day weekend? I understand the pools might feel chilly. We just want to chill, maybe do some hikes, eat yummy food. All three resorts are around the same price. Thanks!

All three resorts you’re considering—Arizona Biltmore, Westin Kierland, and The Phoenician—offer excellent accommodations, dining, and activities, but they each have slightly different vibes that may influence your choice for a family with a 14- and 10-year-old over President’s Day weekend.

Arizona Biltmore

The Biltmore is historic and architecturally stunning, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s protégé. It has a classic, resort feel with several pools and beautiful grounds.

  • Pools: There are multiple pools, some adults-only and some family-friendly. February water may be cool, but kids can still enjoy them with some acclimation.
  • Food: Multiple restaurants onsite offering casual and upscale options.
  • Activities: Less geared toward kids than the other two resorts. Great for walking around the grounds, and you can arrange nearby hikes.

Westin Kierland

Westin Kierland is modern, family-friendly, and has a lively atmosphere that appeals to kids.

  • Pools: Large family pool complex, including a lazy river and splash areas. Even if the water is cooler, kids will enjoy the space to play and explore.
  • Food: Variety of casual dining options onsite, plus quick access to Scottsdale restaurants.
  • Activities: Onsite golf, tennis, and proximity to hiking trails. The kids’ amenities are more robust here than Biltmore or Phoenician.

The Phoenician

The Phoenician is luxurious, with extensive grounds, pools, and a high-end spa.

  • Pools: Several pools including a family pool and a hillside pool. In February, pools might feel cold, but there are scenic terraces to enjoy and relaxation spaces.
  • Food: Excellent dining options, including kid-friendly casual spots.
  • Activities: Golf, tennis, nearby hiking, and trails around Camelback Mountain. Less “kid-centered” than Westin Kierland but very comfortable for family relaxation.

Recommendation:

For a family with children who want to chill, maybe do some hikes, and enjoy great food, Westin Kierland is likely the best fit. Its pool area and kid-friendly amenities are more engaging for younger guests, and it has convenient access to Scottsdale hiking and dining. The Phoenician is excellent for a more upscale, quieter experience, and Biltmore is ideal if you value historic charm and a serene environment over kid-centric fun.
