Beijing stop over March 2025

We are flying from the UK into Beijing Daxing and departing 67 hours later from Beijing International to Japan. Are we permitted to do this on a 72 hour visa? Thanks

Yes, you are generally permitted to do this using the 72-hour visa-free transit (VFT) in Beijing. Since your total stopover time is 67 hours, it falls within the allowed 72-hour window.

Here are the key points to be aware of:

  • The 72-hour visa-free transit applies to travelers from eligible countries, including the UK, who are in transit to a third country (in your case, Japan) with confirmed onward tickets.
  • You must enter and exit through approved airports. For Beijing, both Daxing (PKX) and Beijing Capital (PEK) are included in the VFT program.
  • You cannot leave the city limits of Beijing while under the 72-hour visa-free transit unless you apply for special permission. Normal sightseeing within Beijing is allowed.
  • Immigration officials will check your onward ticket and passport. Make sure you have your confirmed flight from Beijing to Japan ready.

Practical tips:

  • Since you are landing at Daxing and departing from Beijing Capital, you should allow extra time for the 1–1.5 hour transfer between airports, either by taxi or shuttle, to ensure you catch your onward flight.
  • Keep all documents handy at immigration: passport, onward ticket, and hotel reservations (if staying overnight in Beijing).
  • Stay aware of your 72-hour limit; the timer starts from the moment of arrival at the first port of entry (Daxing airport).

In summary, your plan to stay in Beijing for 67 hours on a VFT is acceptable and within the regulations, but plan logistics carefully due to the two different airports involved.
