Where to stop.after St Augustime

After staying in St Augustime, we will be heading north to Charlottesville, Virginia. That is about 10-11 hours north. Looking for a good stop for the night about 8 hours north of St. Augustine.

Chat GPT suggests Columbia, SC or Florence. Any experience with either or any other suggestions?

Thanks for any help

Your summary is accurate and well-structured. To add a bit more detail for planning purposes:

  • Ramada Plaza Cocoa Beach/Cocoa Beach Oceanfront – Offers oceanfront rooms with balconies, a pool with a bar area, and easy walking access to Cocoa Beach Pier for casual dining and souvenir shopping. Good choice for a mix of beach relaxation and light nightlife.
  • Four Points by Sheraton Cocoa Beach – Recently renovated with modern rooms, rooftop terrace, and direct poolside service. Excellent location for walking to restaurants and the pier without being caught in heavy crowds.
  • Westgate Cocoa Beach Resort – Larger resort complex with multiple pools, tiki bar, and optional activities such as bike rentals. Slightly less intimate but offers a full resort experience with beach access and nearby shops.
  • La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Cocoa Beach Oceanfront – Smaller, quiet, and often more budget-friendly. Pool and beachfront are accessible, and it is a good option if you want a calm retreat while still being a short drive from restaurants and Cocoa Beach Pier.

If your priority is easy walking access to restaurants and a lively beach scene without spring break chaos, the Ramada Plaza and Four Points are typically considered the best balance of location, amenities, and quieter surroundings. Late February and early March are generally less crowded than peak spring break, making any of these choices more pleasant for adult travelers.
