February weather and activities

Hi, my husband and I are coming mid February and I am just curious about weather and also do we need a car or is everything walkable or is uber readily available. Also best area to stay in if we can walk everywhere?

Visiting St. Augustine in mid-February can be a lovely experience, though it’s one of the cooler months in Florida. You can generally expect mild and comfortable weather, with average daytime highs around 65–70°F (18–21°C) and nighttime lows around 45–50°F (7–10°C). Rain is possible but not overly common, and it’s a good time to enjoy outdoor sightseeing without the intense summer heat or crowds.

When it comes to getting around, the city’s historic district is very walkable. Many of the main attractions—such as the Castillo de San Marcos, St. George Street, Flagler College, shops, restaurants, and museums—are clustered close together. Walking is often the easiest way to explore this area.

However, if you plan to visit areas outside the historic district, such as the beaches, Anastasia State Park, or further north or south along the coast, having a car would be convenient. Uber and other rideshare services are available in St. Augustine, but they might not be as frequent as in larger cities, so plan accordingly.

For staying within walking distance of most attractions, the best areas are:

  • Historic Downtown / Old City: Perfect for exploring historic sites, dining, and shopping on foot.
  • Near St. George Street: Central to shops, restaurants, museums, and nightlife.
  • Bayfront / Waterfront area: Offers scenic views and is still within walking distance of downtown attractions.

Activities you can enjoy in February include:

  • Walking tours of the historic district and architectural landmarks.
  • Visiting the Castillo de San Marcos and other forts or museums.
  • Exploring local shops, galleries, and St. George Street.
  • Visiting the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum.
  • Relaxing or walking along Anastasia State Park or the city’s beaches (though the water might be too cool for swimming).
  • Enjoying seasonal festivals or events; February sometimes features Valentine’s themed activities or local winter events.

In summary, if your focus is on the historic district, you do not need a car, and staying downtown will allow you to walk to most attractions. If you want to explore beyond downtown or the beaches, renting a car can be more convenient. Uber is an option but may be less frequent in off-peak hours.
