6/3-6/8 Family Trip!

Hello!

Looking for suggestions and tips for a family with 2 kiddos (7&3) who will be visiting the area early June. Where to hike, eat, play would be greatly appreciated! And any other activities you can recommend. I believe we are going to be vrbo’ing near Main St with the ideal circumstance of walking to a majority of things. I saw the Epic Discovery park, but I believe we will be there the week before it opens for the season. Does anyone know if any of the activities are available prior to season opening? Is the Gondola a year round option? Thanks to all who made it this far 👍🏼

Early June in Breckenridge is a beautiful time for a family trip. The weather is usually mild, snow has melted from most trails in town and nearby, and wildflowers start to bloom. Being near Main Street is ideal for walking to many restaurants, shops, and a few activities, so your location is convenient.

Hiking:

  • Bowen/Quarry trail: A gentle, family-friendly hike just outside town, good for little legs and easy access.
  • Spruce Creek Trail: Flat, scenic trail perfect for young kids to explore forests and streams.
  • McCullough Gulch: Slightly longer hike (2-3 miles round trip) with waterfall views, doable for a 7-year-old if you go at a relaxed pace.
  • Town strolls: Main Street to the Blue River or Carter Park trails for easy walks and playground stops.

Eating:

  • Family-friendly restaurants: Giampietro Pasta & Pizzeria, Blue River Bistro, and Blue Moose Pizza are casual and kid-friendly.
  • Quick bites/snacks: Amazing Grace Natural Eatery or Crepe Shack for something fun and easy for children.

Play and activities:

  • Breckenridge Recreation Center: Pool, indoor play areas, and sports facilities—good backup if the weather is unpredictable.
  • Riverwalk and parks: Carter Park and the Blue River area have open spaces for the kids to run.
  • Gondola: The BreckConnect Gondola is typically open year-round and gives great mountain views; check the current schedule as it may have maintenance in early June.

Epic Discovery Park:

Unfortunately, most Epic Discovery activities (alpine slide, mountain coasters, ropes course) officially open mid-June. Some hiking trails and scenic areas around the resort may be accessible, but rides and adventure activities usually are not available before the official season opening.

Other suggestions:

  • Scenic drives around Boreas Pass or Peak 7 for wildflowers and mountain views.
  • Visit the Breckenridge Welcome Center for local tips, kids’ maps, and possible events.
  • Consider a half-day excursion to nearby Frisco Adventure Park if you want additional outdoor fun for kids.

Overall, your plan to stay near Main Street is excellent. You’ll have plenty to do within walking distance while also being able to take short drives to accessible hiking trails, parks, and scenic viewpoints. Early June is quieter than peak summer, so it’s a good time to enjoy Breckenridge with young children without large crowds.
