Washington Monument

Hello! I am coming to DC for Spring Break (2nd trip to DC!) I would like to get tickets for the Washington Monument (I did it in the first trip a couple years ago but unfortunately didn’t get the full experience as the smoke from the Canadian fires obscured the view a bit). I forgot what the website is in order to book tickets. I know it’s best to do it a month in advance and all. If someone can point me to the correct website, that’d be awesome! Thanks!!

Visiting the Washington Monument is a highlight for many in DC, and planning ahead will ensure you get the full experience with unobstructed views.

Booking Tickets:

The official tickets for the Washington Monument are managed by the National Park Service (NPS). Tickets are free, but it is highly recommended to reserve them in advance, especially during busy periods like Spring Break. Reservations can be made online about a month ahead of your visit, or occasionally through the official NPS reservation system.

Tips for the Best Experience:

  • Book early – tickets often sell out quickly during peak tourist seasons.
  • Check for timed entry slots to avoid long waits.
  • If the weather is smoky or hazy (like during past Canadian fires), you may want to monitor air quality and visibility forecasts; clear days offer the best views across the city.
  • Arrive early – even with a ticket, there may be security screening lines.

Additional Information:

  • Children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.
  • There is an elevator to the top; no stairs are open to the public.
  • Photography is allowed, but large bags may be restricted.
  • The ticket site sometimes offers the option to purchase “hardship” or walk-up tickets, but these are limited.

For the most current and official ticketing, visit the National Park Service’s official page for the Washington Monument. It is always best to book directly through NPS rather than third-party sites to avoid fees and ensure availability.
