Which of these 2 hotels

Looking at an August visit, I’d like be able to use IHG points, and have narrowed choices to the Hotel Indigo Boston Garden, and the InterContinental Boston. Our plans are 3 nights, so 2 full days to explore some history. Not much difference in cost, which would be best location to walk from?

Thanks!

Both the Hotel Indigo Boston Garden and the InterContinental Boston are great options, and each offers its own advantages depending on what you're looking for during your stay. Here's a comparison of the two, especially in terms of location and ease of walking to historical sites:

Hotel Indigo Boston Garden:

Located in the West End, the Hotel Indigo is very close to the TD Garden (home to the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins) and the North End, which is the city’s historic Italian neighborhood. It’s a great base for walking to some of Boston's historical and cultural sites, such as:

  • Boston Common: Just a 10-minute walk south. The Common is the oldest public park in the U.S. and connects to the Freedom Trail.
  • Freedom Trail: The starting point of this iconic historical walk is at the Boston Common, and you can follow the trail to explore several historic sites like the Massachusetts State House and Paul Revere's House.
  • North End: A 10-minute walk to the North End, where you can explore Old North Church, Paul Revere’s House, and enjoy delicious Italian food.

Being closer to the North End gives you a lively atmosphere, with lots of dining options and easy access to historical sites. It's a bit more central when it comes to exploring Boston’s history on foot.

InterContinental Boston:

The InterContinental is located along the Boston Waterfront, a bit farther south from the West End. It’s a more luxurious option with scenic views of the harbor, and it’s also close to the Financial District. The InterContinental has a great location for access to attractions like:

  • Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum: About a 15-minute walk from the hotel, this museum is interactive and great for those interested in the American Revolution.
  • Seaport District: It’s a short walk to the Seaport District, which is home to the Institute of Contemporary Art and several upscale restaurants.
  • Old South Meeting House and Faneuil Hall: Though a bit farther than the Hotel Indigo, these landmarks are still walkable, taking about 15-20 minutes.

The InterContinental is a more tranquil location with scenic views of the harbor, and it offers a luxury feel, but it’s slightly further from the heart of the historical areas like the Freedom Trail and North End.

Verdict:

If your main priority is to explore Boston’s history and walk to the major historical sites like the Freedom Trail, Boston Common, and North End, the Hotel Indigo Boston Garden may be your better choice for convenience. It’s within walking distance of several historical landmarks, and you’ll be in a lively area full of restaurants and attractions.

On the other hand, if you prefer a more upscale, quieter location with waterfront views and don’t mind walking a bit further to the historical sites, the InterContinental Boston offers a luxurious stay with a more scenic and peaceful setting.
