My family lives in Sarasota and my husband usually come over on Sunday nights to spend the day at the beach on Monday then spend Monday night and Tuesday all day with family.
We drove from Nokomis to Siesta Key about 9AM Monday morning expecting a line to get into the parking lot at Crescent Beach across from Sniki Tiki/Captain Curts. We were shocked with no traffic and only two of the parking spots were taken.
We set up our beach chairs then did our cardio down to the main beach and back. We were at the main beach by 11AM and there were less then 100 people there. I counted. We were absolutely shocked.
I understand we were still a bit early for season but I have never seen the main beach so deserted.
The only place we saw crowded was a line at Walts.
We were really shocked by the lack of people and tourists on Siesta Key Beach.
The water was not as clear as it is in the summer but it was fine. I did not see any of the brown water I've seen mentioned on these boards.
YMMV.
It sounds like your visit to Siesta Key on February 3rd was pleasantly quiet, which is not too surprising for early February. This is generally considered the off-season for tourists, so while the weather is usually mild, the crowds are significantly smaller than in peak season (March through July). Your experience with minimal parking and a sparsely populated beach aligns with what locals often report during this time of year.
Here are some observations and tips based on your experience and general patterns:
Additional points worth noting:
Overall, your observations indicate that early February is a great time for a low-stress beach day on Siesta Key. Crowds are minimal, parking is convenient, and while the water may not be as clear as in summer, it is still very enjoyable for a day on the sand.
