Which Hotel - Perry Lane or River Street
My wife and I had planned to go to Savannah two years ago, but we got sidelined by a medical issue. The same question back then is still on my mind today: which hotel should we stay at: Perry Lane or River Street Inn? I know they're in different parts of the historical district. Are there more attractions down by the river? I would appreciate any answers. Thanks.
Both Perry Lane and River Street Inn are excellent choices for a stay in Savannah, but they offer different experiences depending on your preferences. Let’s break down what each offers, and which might suit your needs best.
Perry Lane Hotel:
- Luxury & Modern Vibe: Perry Lane is a newer, luxury hotel that exudes modern elegance with art-deco style. It’s a chic, boutique hotel with a hip atmosphere, featuring a rooftop bar, stylish rooms, and unique décor. It’s perfect if you're looking for something trendy and high-end.
- Location: Located just a few blocks from the riverfront, Perry Lane is in a quieter area of the historic district, which means it can be a bit more peaceful while still being within walking distance to most major attractions. It’s also near the popular Madison Square and other lovely squares, so you can easily explore the charm of Savannah on foot.
- Amenities: Perry Lane offers a range of high-end amenities, including a rooftop pool with views of the city, a fitness center, and several excellent dining options. It’s also a popular spot for its rooftop bar, The Peregrin, which offers sweeping views of Savannah’s skyline and is great for a sunset cocktail.
- Atmosphere: The hotel has a more refined, trendy, and sophisticated vibe, making it ideal if you're looking for a luxury experience with modern amenities.
River Street Inn:
- Historic & Charming: The River Street Inn is a more traditional, historic hotel located right on the Savannah River. Housed in an old cotton warehouse, the building has plenty of character, with exposed brick walls and a more classic Southern charm. The hotel offers a sense of Savannah’s history, making it a great choice if you want to immerse yourself in the city’s rich heritage.
- Location: River Street Inn is situated directly on River Street, the most famous street in Savannah, lined with shops, restaurants, bars, and galleries. The location is ideal for those who want easy access to the water and want to be at the heart of the city's bustling tourist district. You’ll be just steps away from the riverfront, and there are plenty of dining options, shops, and attractions right at your doorstep.
- Atmosphere: While Perry Lane offers more of a modern luxury experience, the River Street Inn captures the historic and charming feel of Savannah. The hotel is perfect if you love the idea of being right by the river, experiencing the cobblestone streets, and soaking in the authentic old-South ambiance.
- Accessibility: River Street can get quite busy, especially on weekends. If you're looking for a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere, this could be a downside. However, if you enjoy being close to the action and easy access to the riverfront and nearby squares, this is an excellent choice.
Which Should You Choose?
- For a more modern and luxurious experience: Perry Lane Hotel is your best bet. It offers a high-end, trendy atmosphere, luxurious amenities, and is still within walking distance of the riverfront and historic district, but in a quieter part of town.
- For a more classic, historic experience right on the river: River Street Inn would be a fantastic choice. It's perfect if you want to be in the thick of Savannah’s tourist action, right on the historic River Street, with easy access to riverfront activities, shopping, and dining.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re traveling for a special occasion or looking for something a bit more upscale, Perry Lane’s modern amenities and quiet location may suit you best. However, if you want to be right on the action of River Street with easy access to Savannah’s most iconic spots, River Street Inn is an excellent, historic choice. Either way, both hotels offer a comfortable and memorable stay in one of the most beautiful cities in the U.S.
