Grand Junction hotel choices

We will be arriving at GJT around 8:30 pm - then need a rental car and hotel. I'm thinking it will be cheaper to rent away from airport, so will Uber there (budget or wherever). Any suggestions on hotel? Looking online, none of them really get great reviews. Some downright awful!

8:30 will feel like 10:30 our time so need somewhere in the area before we head to Monument Valley the next day. Any recommendations? Both hotel and car rental. thanks!

Arriving late in Grand Junction around 8:30 pm means you’ll want a convenient, safe, and comfortable hotel with a reliable check-in process. Since you’re also planning to pick up a rental car, it’s worth balancing convenience with cost, especially if renting directly at the airport is more expensive.

Car Rental:

Grand Junction Regional Airport has major rental companies like Enterprise, Hertz, Budget, and Avis. Sometimes off-airport locations are cheaper, but given your late arrival, it may be simpler to pick up at the airport. You can compare rates on aggregator sites to see if off-airport locations like in downtown Grand Junction or near Horizon Drive are cheaper. Uber or Lyft from the airport to these locations should be under $15.

Hotel Options: Since reviews can be mixed online, I suggest looking at options known for reliability, comfort, and quick late check-in:

  • DoubleTree by Hilton Grand Junction: Located close to downtown, generally well-reviewed, offers comfortable rooms, and has a restaurant on-site for a late meal if needed.
  • SpringHill Suites by Marriott Grand Junction: Modern, clean, with breakfast included. A short Uber from the airport, easy access to main roads for your drive to Monument Valley.
  • Homewood Suites by Hilton Grand Junction: Offers suite-style rooms with small kitchens and free breakfast. Ideal if you want a quieter, more homey feel before a long drive.
  • Best Western Plus Grand Junction: Affordable and reliable, with parking for your rental car and breakfast included. Convenient location near major roads.

Tips:

  • Book the hotel in advance since you’re arriving late; confirm late check-in availability.
  • If you rent off-airport, check Uber/Lyft availability late at night—Grand Junction is generally safe, but services are less frequent after 10 pm.
  • Check if the hotel offers free parking; you’ll be leaving early the next day for Monument Valley.

In summary, for convenience and peace of mind, an airport rental car pickup paired with a well-reviewed nearby hotel like DoubleTree or SpringHill Suites is likely the smoothest option. You’ll get a good night’s sleep and be ready for the drive the next morning without worrying about last-minute logistics.
