Minions at CityWalk?
I’m visiting LA for a few days next month with a 7 and 4 year old. They love Minions / Despicable me but we decided not to buy Universal tickets since there are limited rides for little ones. Are there Minion characters or themed stores at Universal CityWalk or elsewhere that would be worth checking out?
Universal CityWalk is the entertainment and shopping district located just outside Universal Studios Hollywood. While it does not offer full theme park rides, it does have some experiences and stores that can be fun for young children, including those who love Minions.
Regarding Minions specifically:
- The main opportunity to see Minions characters is inside Universal Studios theme park itself, where meet-and-greets and photo ops are available. Outside the park, at CityWalk, character appearances are more sporadic and not guaranteed, so you might not see Minions regularly.
- However, there is a Universal Studios Store at CityWalk which typically sells a range of Minions merchandise, including plush toys, apparel, and other themed souvenirs. This can be a fun stop for your kids even if you’re not entering the park.
- Other retail outlets and pop-up stores in CityWalk occasionally feature Universal and Minions items, especially during holiday seasons or special events, so it’s worth checking with guest services when you arrive.
Additional tips for visiting with young children:
- CityWalk has kid-friendly dining options, such as the Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, which can be a fun treat stop for little ones.
- Walking around CityWalk is free, so you can enjoy the atmosphere, music, and occasional street performers without purchasing theme park tickets.
- Plan for stroller access if needed, as CityWalk can get busy, and little legs might tire quickly.
In summary, while CityWalk itself does not have guaranteed Minion characters or rides, the Universal Studios Store offers plenty of Minions merchandise for your kids, and the environment is lively and entertaining enough for a short visit with young children.
