LA hotel suggestions near to and further from convention ctr

Hi we will be coming to LA for Star Wars Celebration at the Convention center.

Where would you recommend we stay. Ritz Carlton Looks a good location in downtown but im unsure if staying in downtown is a good idea.

We would be in La for 10 days.

Is Four Seasons a good location?

I stayed in LA years ago but forget the best locations for general tourism,

Any advice would be gratefully received.

For a 10-day stay in Los Angeles during the Star Wars Celebration at the LA Convention Center, choosing a hotel location depends on your priorities: proximity to the convention center, general tourism, and safety/comfort. Downtown LA has both advantages and drawbacks.

Staying Near the Convention Center

Being close to the convention center makes it convenient to attend the event without dealing with long commutes or traffic. Downtown LA hotels in this area include luxury options like the Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, and nearby Marriott hotels. Advantages include walking distance to the convention center, access to LA Live, and nearby restaurants and entertainment. However, some parts of downtown can feel less lively at night, and safety can vary by block.

  • Ritz-Carlton Downtown: Excellent location for convention access, luxury amenities, safe area within the hotel’s vicinity, but not as scenic for sightseeing outside the immediate downtown area.
  • JW Marriott / Marriott / InterContinental LA: Similar advantages — walkable to the convention, near dining and nightlife at LA Live.

Staying Slightly Further Away for Tourism

If you plan to explore more of LA’s tourist attractions — Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, or Venice Beach — staying further from downtown may be more enjoyable. You’ll need to commute to the convention center, which can be 20–40 minutes depending on traffic.

  • Four Seasons Beverly Hills: A luxurious option in Beverly Hills. Safe, centrally located for visiting Hollywood, Rodeo Drive, and West Hollywood. About a 25–35 minute drive to the convention center, depending on traffic.
  • Hotels near Hollywood Blvd / Sunset Strip: More affordable than Four Seasons but convenient for sightseeing, restaurants, and entertainment.
  • Santa Monica / West LA: Ideal if you prefer a beach vibe. Hotels here are about 30–45 minutes from the convention center, but you get ocean views, bike paths, and a more relaxed environment.

Other Tips

  • Traffic in LA is highly variable — consider ride-share, rental car, or even using metro/light rail when convenient. Downtown hotels give walking access to the convention, which can save stress.
  • For a 10-day stay, splitting your stay can be an option: a few nights downtown for convention days, then a few nights further out for sightseeing and relaxation.
  • Book early, as events like Star Wars Celebration draw many visitors and fill hotels quickly.

In summary, for convenience and minimal commute to the convention, Ritz-Carlton or JW Marriott downtown is ideal. For a more traditional LA sightseeing experience, Four Seasons Beverly Hills or a hotel in West Hollywood, Hollywood, or Santa Monica offers comfort, safety, and easy access to major attractions, though you’ll need to drive to the convention center.
